Remuneration of breeders
At Mérinos France, we are committed to restoring wool's true value by paying farmers above and beyond the market price. Today, wool is often sold at a loss, with its purchase price not even covering the cost of shearing.
We have chosen to purchase their wool at twice the market price, thus ensuring them a complementary and sustainable source of income. This commitment allows them to invest in their farms, improve the quality of their wool, and preserve expertise essential to France's textile heritage.
By promoting this exceptional fiber, we are building a model where agriculture and luxury enrich each other, while respecting those who bring this industry to life.
A commitment to quality and sustainability
We are starting GOTS (organic farming) and RWS (animal welfare) certification for our wool.
A tool to promote your projects
Mérinos France is part of the Tricolor collective, and thanks to them, we have an effective traceability tool. From the harvesting of wool batches to the manufacturing of the product, we are able to trace the entire wool processing chain.

Genetic
Wool fineness is a subject that has been worked on by Australian and New Zealand breeders for over 50 years: between genetic selection and the adaptation of the breed to its territory, our friends in the Southern Hemisphere have gained a considerable lead over us. It is time to make up for lost time, and we are looking for a talented engineer from Agro Paris Tech to lead this innovation. She will benefit from the technical know-how of our partner breeders in France and abroad, and from the Bergerie Nationale de Rambouillet, located just a few kilometers from our pilot herd. Wool fineness is a highly heritable trait, which facilitates research. After a precise inventory of the best fine wools in Europe, we will develop two pilot herds in the Ile de France and the Paca region, each adapted to their terroir, which we will shear in the spring of 2027. Within two years, we will have wool that will compete with the best Australian and New Zealand wools!
